Intrepid Launches Single-parent Tours

Intrepid single parent adventures

Family adventure holiday specialist has launched six tours specially for solo parents and their children – a first of its kind.

The UK has nearly 2 million single parents, according to the Office for National Statistics. In the year ending September 2017, 16% of family bookings with Intrepid were for lone parents and their kids, and the firm is seeing a marked rise in enquiries and requests from solo parents.

Intrepid’s new single-parent trips in Costa Rica, Thailand, Northern India, Egypt, Vietnam and Morocco were selected on the basis they make will make it easier for solo parents to travel to these destinations – they may feel intimidated if doing so alone with their kids. None of the trips include a single supplement.

Says Dyan McKie, Brand Manager for family trips at Intrepid Travel (and a single mum): ‘You only need to look at family holiday packages widely advertised by the travel industry to see they cater for two parents and two children. In many ways this assumption is archaic and doesn't reflect today's families. The travel industry caters for so many niche groups but solo parents have been ignored for too long. Our existing family trips have been increasingly popular with solo parents as it allows children to bond and form their own friendships, meaning that parents can enjoy some much-deserved rest and relaxation.”

Intrepid has also launched new 2018 family itineraries including a Bali holiday with teens, a Tanzania family safari, and an 8-day Mexico trip. Read more about family adventure holidays with Intrepid.
