Family-friendly places to stay in Berlin and Brandenburg

Global brand Citadines has 2-room apartments for up to 4 just off the Kurfürstendamm or there’s the similar Aparthotel Adagio nearby. Perhaps best of all, the funky Circus Apartments in the Mitte district, part of the Circus Hotel, offer baby kits (highchair, extra beds or cots, baby monitor, and toys and games), a pre-shopping service, room service from local cafés, films and iPad games, a laundry service, and private parking.

If you want to splurge, the Hotel de Rome offers a Unforgettable Family Affair package including games and a kids’ guide to Berlin from the concierge and cookie-baking in the hotel kitchen. There’s a daily kids' splash hour in the pool, with water games. Hotel de Rome also offers a special family package at Christmas and summer discounts. Alternatively, the plush Kempinski Adlon offers a Children Travel the World package including an adventure backpack with a camera, colouring book and sweets, a guided tour of the hotel, and a visit to either the zoo or the Tierpark. Kids can also use the pool in the spa. Or go for broke at the Ritz Carlton, which offers kids' welcome cocktails, a treasure hunt, children’s afternoon tea, waffle-baking and even the opportunity to explore the hotel in Mini Mercedes pedal cars!

For the wacky Propeller Island City Lodge (a great bet with teens), see our Unusual Places to Stay in Europe feature.

Brandenburg has everything from city hotels to castles and country inns, but in summer camping really comes to the fore here. For more information, see Brandenburg Tourism ( For accommodation at Tropical Islands, see Things to Do.
