• Enjoy precious bonding time as a family, away from domestic pressures and chores.
• Learn something new, whether it’s a foreign language, a watersports activity, a survival skill or how to cook local dishes.
• Make a difference socially – whether by supporting local economics, or directly, by helping out on environmental project or raising money for local schools.
• Support the environment, by choosing a eco-friendly holiday.
• Improve your health and fitness through fun and challenging activities.
• See extraordinary wildlife and mind-blowing landscapes.
• Discover other cultures.

Meet the Team

Andy Cook, Director

With extensive travel industry and management consultancy experience and an MBA from Columbia Business School, Andy has lived, worked and travelled across the globe. In 2002 he was unable to find ideas for family holidays in one place on the web – less than a year later, Takethefamily was born. Andy has three sons who can’t wait for their next adventure.
Best Ever Family Trip: Venice, Rome and the Naples area by train.
Favourite Destination(s): Northern California
Top of Bucket List: Whistler
Hottest Travel Tip: Get kids excited about other cultures by showing a strong interest of your own in your destination.

Sam Cartmell, Director

Following four years in journalism, Sam moved to Hong Kong, where he became an advertising copywriter and helped relaunch Cathay Pacific Airways worldwide. Back in England and dad to three girls, he is now Deputy Executive Creative Director at the Ogilvy advertising agency.
Best Ever Family Trip: Northern California and Kenya.
Favourite Destination(s): San Francisco or a safari holiday.
Top of Bucket List: New Zealand.
Hottest Travel Tip: Take plenty of extra snacks on long-haul flights – but beware expanding crisp packets due to cabin pressure! In England, don’t miss the Lake District – fantastic scenery, and all the mountains and walks are free!

Rhonda CarrierRhonda Carrier, Head of Content

Rhonda has contributed to a wide array of prestigious national and international media including The Guardian, the National Geographic Traveller Family supplement, Condé Nast Traveller and Prima, as well as edited and/or written for every major British guidebook publisher. Best Ever Family Trip: Iceland, for the in-your-face natural wonders.
Favourite Destination(s): So hard to choose, but I have a big thing about Scandinavia.
Top of Bucket List: Japan, which I’m saving for when all my boys are teens.
Hottest Travel Tip: Let the kids have as much gadget or screen time as they want while you’re en route – by the time you get there they’ll have it out of their system and be happy to go without for a while.

Julie TurnerJulie Turner, Travel Consultant

Our luxury travel consultant Julie has worked in the industry for more than 25 years. Based in Cambridgeshire, she frequently travels with her husband and three children. A tourist board accredited Australia and Caribbean specialist, she is also an expert in weddings abroad (she herself got married in Saint Lucia).
Best Ever Family Trip: One of our favourite family holidays was to Orlando, Florida, watching fireworks from the beach in the dark while eating toasted marshmallows from the firepit.
Favourite Destination(s): My favourite destination has to be the Cayman Islands; beautiful clear seas for snorkelling and an amazing stretch of seven mile beach.
Top of Bucket List: I’ve wanted to go to Lapland since I was a child – and this year we’re finally going. I think I’m more excited than the kids!
Hottest Travel Tip: Don’t try to cram in too much, particularly in Florida, or you’ll return home exhausted and feeling like you need a holiday! Make sure you have some more relaxing days to break it up a bit.

Favourite Destination(s): Any Greek island.
Top of Bucket List: To make my way around the best of European cities, with Lyon and Lisbon top of the list for the food!
Hottest Travel Tip: Try local cuisines wherever you go.

Kelly BowerKelly Bower, Travel Consultant

Best Ever Family Trip: One of her favourite family holidays was to the Caribbean, hard to decide between Barbados, Aruba or Antigua, a multi-generational holiday which suited grandparents and children alike on the white sands of the Caribbean sea was pure bliss.
Favourite Destination(s): My favourite destination has to be the Canadian Rockies; a tour through Banff, Whistler, Vancouver and ending on Vancouver Island was a trip of a lifetime, so great I did it twice! Whale watching and seeing a pod of whales took my breath away.
Top of Bucket List: I’ve wanted to go to California and stand on the Golden Gate Bridge and ride a tram though San Francisco... one day!
Hottest Travel Tip: Life is too short, just do it!.

Favourite Destination(s): Thailand for the complete culture shock as soon as you land, travelling around locally by tuk tuk, the beautiful hotels and the delicious, cheap food!
Top of Bucket List: Definitely New York and a South African safari are high on my list of future trips!
Hottest Travel Tip: Make full use of the airport soft play area's and let the little ones burn off some energy before boarding the aircraft. And break up the time on board by ordering a children's meal or letting them help you choose some snacks for the flight once you get airside.
